Enthusiasm (Vertov, 1930)
This film, also known as Symphony of the Don Basin, is one of the earliest Soviet sound films, and employs Vertov’s montage techniques in its soundtrack. The industralisation in the Don Basin as part of the Five Year Plan is glorified to full effect in this non-narrative documentary. The soundtrack adds to the effect of this film, and it is notable for being one of the earliest films to record its sound on location.[1]
