THE SOUTH AMERICAN NETWORK
The Soviet radical and innovative practices arrived in South America, and several filmmakers elaborated on the film radical practices to depict aboriginal communities, colonialism and liberation. These four filmmakers are an example of how direct and indirect influences were developed in each country (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Colombia). Each filmmaker developed her-his own voice and choose her-his own themes. By various sources these four South American filmmakers have been influenced or have been exposed to the work of the early Soviet filmmakers. The French radical groups like The Medvedkin Group and The Dziga Vertov Group, and filmmakers and like Chris Marker and Joris Ivens, were decisive not only on being exposed to the Soviet films and their inspiration, but also on the process of actual filmmaking in these countries.
